EDUCATION SYSTEM IN FINLAND

Finland known as one of the countries with the best education in the world. Students start first grade when they are 7 years old. Before that, children can attend kindergarten and 1 year of pre-primary education when they turn 6 years old. The basic education program lasts 9 years, from grade 1 to grade 9.

Educational preparatory class for children in Finland.

For Finnish children, they will attend pre-education classes at the age of 6, to prepare for entering elementary school. For children who follow their parents to settle in Finland, this preparatory class is held at all levels. The purpose of participating in this class is for children to have enough knowledge of Finnish or Swedish to be able to participate in official classes after 1 year of learning the language.

Primary education in Finland is compulsory, and lasts 6 years. All parents are responsible for registering their children to attend school, and the city will assign the school to their children. If a family chooses to send their child to a private school, they can register separately with the school.

Secondary education in Finland.

Secondary education in Finland lasts only 3 years (grades 7 - 8 - 9), and this is also a mandatory program for all Finns.

Upper secondary education in Finland.

From grades 10 to 12, students can choose to go to school according to the basic education program or vocational education program. Participating in the basic education program, students will be taught cultural subjects and take the graduation exam after completing 3 years of study. This program prepares students to continue studying and researching a field of interest at University. In case students participate in a vocational program, after 3 years of study they will receive a certificate recognizing professional competency for that profession and can directly participate in the labor market.
